What to Wear to a Spring Wedding

Ivanka Trump Embossed Bell-Sleeve Dress | Poppy & Peonies Darling Blush Bag | Sole Society Primrose Jewelled Pumps | Daniel Wellington Melrose Watch

At this age it feels like the wave of weddings and babies is at it’s peak. It’s such an exciting time in life to be able to celebrate these monumental occasions with our friends and families. With another year of a handful of weddings on our plate, I’m getting a jump on my wedding guest dress shopping. I stopped in at Hudson’s Bay this weekend during their Bay Days sale and picked up a couple dresses for these upcoming events. The first I picked out is this embossed blue bell-sleeve number. I love that it’s a slightly thicker fabric so I will be warm if it’s still cool later this spring, and that it makes it very flattering. I always love this soft blue colour on blondes, it’s just so flattering!

Below are my favourite wedding guest dresses under $150:

Classics With A Twist

Zara Pearl Detail Turtleneck | Zara Blush Faux Leather Skirt | Madewell Black Booties | SheIn Black Quilted Purse | Missguided Blush Fedora | Le Specs Caliente Sunglasses

While I love a good floral print, or vibrant outfit, the classics will always hold strong in my wardrobe. So when I find classic pieces with a fun twist I’m sold! I recently took a trip to Zara and fell in love with this skirt and turtleneck. I love the pearl detailing on the turtleneck and the blush tone of the skirt! They’re such perfect pieces that take me from the office to date night and into the weekend.

Tips for Refreshing Your Wardrobe

Closet clean-out

  • As each season comes around I like to go through and clear out pieces I haven’t worn in the last year. This year I took it one step further and cleared out anything that I didn’t love or feel excited about keeping. Clearing out those pieces that just take up space is always so freeing and helps you take stock of what you have, and what you need.

Sell Your Unwanted Pieces

  • Stores like Platos Closet and Style Encore are great options for selling your unwanted pieces. You won’t get a ton of money for your used items, but they will give you cash on the spot and it’s an easy way to get rid of those pieces that were taking up unwanted space. If you have more work-wear pieces, Style Encore is your best bet. Platos Closet is best for pieces from Forever 21, Abercrombie, H&M etc.
  • If you have higher end pieces, consignment shops are likely your best bet. My favourite shop is The Way We Were in Georgetown.
  • If you’re not into selling in person, there are many great online options. DePop, Instagram pages, or Facebook Buy and Sell Groups are some great options, aside from the classics like Kijiji and Ebay.

Use what you already have

  • Once you have cleaned out your closet, go back through and pull out some of your staple pieces, as well as a few favourites from last year. Use those pieces as the base to build your wardrobe.

Stick with a colour palette

  • To get more wear out of your wardrobe, or be able to pack for a week or more in a carry on, stick with a colour palette. Keeping with a consistent colour scheme will allow you to easily mix and match pieces, make more outfits, and stretch your wardrobe further. Mixing and matching pieces will give you the option to take a dozen pieces into a few dozen outfits.

Accessorize

  • A few simple accessories will easily spice up a simple outfit and can take any look from day to night with a quick change.

My Favourite Combo

Boohoo Grey Cropped Moto Jacket | Shein Blush Lace Top | American Eagle Dream Jean | Lord & Taylor Pink Flats | Jewelled Pink Crossbody Purse

If you follow me on Instagram you would know that I am totally hooked on pastel combos right now. My absolute favourite combo lately is this blush pink with a soft grey, especially the combo of  a feminine lace blouse with a moto jacket to add a little edge to the outfit. What is your favourite style right now?

Pastels in Winter

Similar Powder Blue Coat (budget friendly option) | Pink Lace Blouse | White Skinny Denim | Blush Love Crossbody | Grey Booties | Similar Necklace

Does anyone else find that they get the post-holidays blues? Every year I am so excited for the holidays and once they’re done I realize there is a whole lot more winter to come, without the parties and celebrations to make it cheerful. Once that realization starts to set in, I start pulling out my bright and pastel pieces to give me a little taste of what’s to come in the spring. I love being able to put a smile on someones face when they notice someone wearing something other than black or grey (not that there’s anything wrong with that) during this, often dreary, season.

Though I usually love all things feminine and frilly, I do appreciate an outfit with some sass and edge to it. When I spotted this embroidered skirt I knew I had to snag one! I have been hooked on this falls floral and embroidered trends, and this pairs the two perfectly. I decided to pair it with a simple off the shoulder bodysuit, which is incredibly comfortable, and fun – I’m obsessed with the bell sleeves. I love how easy this outfit feels, while still being perfect for a night out on the town. Anytime I can be comfortable while looking pulled together, I am one happy lady! I will mention that this skirt isn’t exactly easy to iron or steam so it was a tad wrinkled, but it has since smoothed out after I lay it flat for a couple days.
